What We Do
We have extensive history in all manner of insurance disputes including personal injury, coverage, bad faith, agent and broker issues, life & health with particular experience in ERISA issues, class actions, excess and reinsurance, and insolvency. We have litigated successfully against some of California’s most prominent plaintiffs’ counsel. We also represent plaintiffs in meritorious litigation not creating conflicts of interest with our insurer clients.
Because my background includes ownership of a $30 million automobile insurance managing general agency and serving as general counsel to one of California’s largest property & casualty insurers, I am especially interested in preventive law. Most insurance disputes are best handled before they become lawsuits. I have fifteen years experience providing legal and business advice at the agency and company level. I personally went to trial even while serving, most recently, as a company general counsel, but, at the same time, have learned that a timely telephone call or file review can often save clients literally millions of dollars in litigation and settlement costs.
We are also experienced regulatory lawyers. I have appeared before the California and other state insurance departments for over thirty years, and have expertise in product development and approvals, market conduct examinations, investments, disciplinary and enforcement proceedings, company formations, mergers and acquisitions, rate filings, and successful administrative hearings in most of these areas. I have also drafted legislation, testified before the state legislature, and had leadership roles in numerous legislative and initiative battles.
